One of Onavo's main features was to give the users insights about their data usage.
To do so we designed a screen in which apps are organized in a descending order by the volume of data they use, each is given a color.
The frame around the top bar illustrates the usage ratio by changing its size in correlation to the list as it's being scrolled.
Initially the onboarding process included five steps, the last one being an installation of a VPN outside the app.
This was confusing and challenging for the users - resulting in a low conversion rate.
By making the first slide an overview we reduced the process to the bare minimum, from 5 steps to 3.
We also gave clear instructions for installing the VPN as the last step in the process, which helped the users better understand and succeed in their journey.
After making those changes we saw an increase in the conversion rate.
Initially, first-time-users found an empty interface since data had just started to be collected. This made users frustrated and disappointed.
We helped users see the future value for the app and eliminate their disappointment by:
As time went by additional apps were added to the onavo ecco system
One of our main tasks was to keep a unified language that made usability easy for users and implementation quick and simple for developers.
We created a holistic system that kept consistency and showcased unified behaviours.
This allowed for familiarity and made using them easy for people who already use one of the other apps.
It also kept implementation light and easy since a lot of the components and structures that had to be created already existed.
